T’ai Chi Ch’uan is a continuous series of slow, intentional movements which energize the practitioner, provide a sense of calm, and increase flexibility and balance. An ancient martial art and energy practice, benefits of the practice include relaxation and stress management, enhanced balance and hand-eye coordination, muscle tone and strength, and improved cardiovascular health, among others.
This class introduces the fundamental concepts and movements of T’ai Chi according to the Wu style system, known for its emphasis on the energy development, stress management, and meditative aspects of the system. This Beginning T’ai Chi course focuses on the mastery of the basic movements and a short version of the T’ai Chi form. Students are guided through the material with explanations of the techniques, concepts, and sequences. After students develop their mastery of the sequences on completion of this course, they can move on to the Intermediate T’ai Chi course. You’re welcome, however, to retake this Beginning T’ai Chi course.
