Calming the Anxious Mind
MBSR: From Stress to Wellness
Greg is a licensed clinical professional counselor in private practice. His counseling practice is called Missoula Mindful Counseling. Greg completed his undergraduate studies in psychology at Manchester University in England and his graduate studies in counseling at the University of Montana. Before working as a counselor, he was a hospice Chaplain for 7 years, providing spiritual support and grief counseling to hospice patients and their families. He has also practiced mindfulness and meditation for thirty years within the context of the Buddhist tradition. He was accepted to be ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 1984, and is currently associated with the Rocky Mountain Buddhist Center in Missoula.
After completing his graduate schooling, he received supervision in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) from Julie Hergenrather, PhD, (previously director of the Northwest Center for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, now directing the prestigious Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research).
He has continued to seek trainings in innovative and effective new treatments which have mindfulness components, such as Eye Movement Desensitizing Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Sensorimotor training. He has also sought secular, psychologically-based trainings in mindfulness such as Mindfulness- Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for depression relapse and Mindfulness- Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). These trainings have helped him integrate his previous mindfulness training into his therapy practice. For more about Greg, visit missoulamindfulcounseling.com.
