Susan is an internal medicine physician and has been in practice in Missoula for 16 years. She completed her medical training and residency at the University of Washington and discovered Missoula on one of her medical rotations. Since moving to Missoula in 2000, she has enjoyed a 16-year career in primary care at Missoula's VA clinic. Because of her personal interest in mindfulness practices and their benefits to health and wellbeing, Susan began teacher training in mindfulness over ten years ago. She has been formally teaching mindfulness for seven years in both the community and the health care setting. Susan earned her certification to teach MBSR from The Center for Mindfulness in Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and has trained extensively in Zen and Vipassana meditation traditions.

After a journey with ovarian cancer in 2014, Susan founded Montana Mindfulness Institute through which she continues to teach MBSR and other mindfulness trainings in and around Missoula.
