A mind/body program for women who are recovering from interpersonal violence

This program for women recovering from interpersonal violence is made up of several mind/body therapies.  These modalities are known to help calm the nervous system that can be in a state of upheval after a traumatic experience.  The skillful weaving together of all of these evidence-based mind/body therapies has produced a very powerful intervention for women who have experienced interpersonal violence.

This program is a 9-week, 18-hour commitment.  The curriculum is made up of the following modalities:

  • Qigong with Libby McIntyre
  • Writing in the Service of Healing with Joyce Hocker
  • Restorative Yoga with Leslie Burgess
  • Mindfulness with Raquel Castellanos
  • Art Therapy with Kim Brown-Campbell

An important part of this program is the research component.  We will be measuring stress, anxiety, depression, and hope.  The initial testing will take place during your initial screening interview.  We will also be retesting during the last group meeting.

What you need to know about participating in this program:

  • You will be agreeing to be a part of a research study which will look at the effectiveness of mind/body modalities in helping the recovery from traumatic experiences.
  • In order to be in this program, you are required to have a working relationship with a mental health provider.
  • Have kids?  we do have funds available to pay for child care at Lil Griz Cub House.
  • What to wear: Wear comfortable clothing so that you can move freely.  Dressing in layers is a great idea.  Shoes are optional for several of the classes.

Interested in participating? Here's how it works:

  • You are referred into the program by your mental health care provider.
  • You contact Kathy Mangan at the Learning Center, (406) 721-0033.
  • Kathy will schedule a screening interview with you.
  • Complete your intake form and take it with you to your interview.  You will also need to read and sign the following forms: Informed Consent, Notice of Use of Private Health Information, and Authorization for the use and Disclosure of Information and pass those forms on to Kathy as well. (If you do not have a printer, you can pick up paper copies of these forms here at LCRW.)
  • That's it!
